On Saturday 12th May, we took our two J80s for a day cruise over to Cawsands, we were treated to a beautiful day of sunshine and a gentle breeze, perfect for a very relaxing sail. Once moored in Cawsands, hungry sailors, barbeques and endless bags of food were ferried over to the beach. A delicious BBQ followed, and we were joined by members of UPSPC who had also sailed over. Another beautiful cruise back to Plymouth ended a very enjoyable day out with some great people.
Between the 6th-9th of April, Plymouth University sent a team to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy to compete at the annual BUCS national match racing championships, where they would be competing against some of the UK’s best university match racers. Where we had Ted Blowers helming, Ross Mackley in the middle and Nick Williams up the front on the bow. Day one was used for training for the team to find their feet in the Elliot 6M in lovely conditions, which also allowed them to familiarise themselves with the other competitors.

Plymouth yacht club sent a team of three to the RYA match racing winter event 1 in Weymouth. Neil, Ewan and Henry spent three days in an Eliot 6m, competing against some experienced teams in some very challenging conditions. After two days of very competitive racing , Plymouth managed to finish 7th overall, and only snapping one spinnaker pole! It was a throughly enjoyable event and would highly recommend this to anyone else who wants to get involved in match racing! Thanks you Neil for organising the event!
University Yacht Club members enjoyed a weekend away in Fowey from the 27th – 29th October. Having spent the night at anchor in Plymouth Sound we set off on the Saturday morning and had a cracking sail towards Fowey. Our evening was finished off with a well deserved pub meal and a couple of pints! After a Sunday morning fry up, the boats set off on a long reach towards home. We were greeted by the University J80’s in Cawsands bay where we rafted up for our last cup of tea prior to heading back in. A wicked weekend with some great company and sailing!
