Cawsand Cruise

Our first day trip of the year took us over to Cawsand’s Bay for a BBQ on the beach. Although the wind was very light, the sun was shining and for an October day, it was very warm! We drifted into Cawsand’s picked up a mooring and then ferried everyone, plus barbeques and plenty of food over to the beach. After a delicious lunch, we got back to the boats and enjoyed the sail back to Plymouth as the wind had nicely picked up again. Was a fun day out and we hope to organise lots more in the coming year!

Beach Clean

On Sunday 14th October, we ran a Beach Clean in collaboration with ‘Plymouth Beach Clean Volunteers’.

Our members spent an afternoon at Mount Batten Beach clearing up litter and other unnatural objects from this beautiful beach. In the aftermath of Storm ‘Callum’, we found that most rubbish had been swept out to sea and the beach appeared quite clean. However, we still managed to dispose of a few full bin bags of recycling and general waste, whilst taking some a few objects to be re-used by our club. It was a well-spent afternoon enjoyed by all and we thank Plymouth Beach Clean Volunteers for providing the equipment and information.

Between the 6th-9th of April, Plymouth University sent a team to Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy to compete at the annual BUCS national match racing championships, where they would be competing against some of the UK’s best university match racers. Where we had Ted Blowers helming, Ross Mackley in the middle and Nick Williams up the front on the bow. Day one was used for training for the team to find their feet in the Elliot 6M in lovely conditions, which also allowed them to familiarise themselves with the other competitors.
